威爾第的《弄臣》（Rigoletto）是歌劇史上第一部以殘疾人為主角的作品，同時也是威爾第成名後的第一部經典之作，義大利語劇本由弗朗切斯科·馬里亞·皮亞韋(Francesco Maria Piave)以法國文豪維克多·雨果(Victor Hugo)所作的法語戲劇《國王的弄臣》(Le roi s'amuse)為基礎改編而成。

里戈萊托身為一位弄臣，嘲諷貴族公爵的風流放蕩，卻始終保護著純真的女兒吉爾達。然而，當她知道自己的女兒被公爵誘惑後，他決定報復，僱用刺客對付公爵。命運最終反噬了弄臣，吉爾達為愛犧牲，代替公爵走向死亡，讓里戈萊托親眼目睹自己的復仇計劃變成女兒喪命的悲劇。

這部歌劇以其濃烈的戲劇性和動人的音樂著稱。代表性的詠嘆調包括公爵的《善變的女人》（La donna è mobile），以輕快而諷刺的旋律反映其花心本性；吉爾達的《可愛的名字》（Caro nome），則充滿對愛情的純真憧憬。還有四重唱《美麗的愛之女》（Bella figlia dell’amore），巧妙地將多層次的情感糅合在一起，成為歌劇史上的經典不朽的橋段。

Rigoletto is a dramatic tale of contradictions and vulnerabilities of human nature. Whether you're drawn to its compelling narrative, powerful music or historical backdrop, Rigoletto has captivated audiences for generations and will remain so in the future.

This opera in three acts by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi has been a favorite among audiences ever since its opening night in Venice, Italy on 11 March 1851.

It is based on the 1832 play Le Roi S'amuse by French writer Victor Hugo, who is better known for his novels Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris.

The story revolves around Rigoletto, a jester for the Duke of Mantua. The Duke is a corrupt ruler known for his womanizing ways. Rigoletto’s life becomes complicated when his latest wisecrack starts a vendetta that is far from amusing, leaving him cursed. The Duke falls in love with a mystery woman, who turns out to be Rigoletto’s innocent daughter, Gilda.

Rigoletto discovers that Gilda has been abducted and seduced by the Duke. So he decided to plan a revenge. However, what goes around, comes around, it means that he won't be having the last laugh…

Created by the director Gianni Santucci, the 2025 KSAF opera production Rgoletto transfers the opera from its original setting of 16th century Mantua to a small area of a town in Italy in 1950s. Focus on the choice between good and evil, and the realism of what happened on the stage. In our life, there will always be few Rigoletto around us.
